Akosua Serwaa v. Odo Broni — The Judge Was RIGHT! Daddy Lumba Had TWO WIVES!
WAIT! Did Daddy Lumba really have TWO wives?
Yes — and the judge was 100% RIGHT. Let me explain before you argue.
I’ve just finished reading the 49-page ruling by Her Ladyship Dr Dorinda Smith Arthur… and listen… the judgment was solid! Zero confusion. Zero bias. Pure law.
In court, the law is simple: if you make an allegation, YOU must prove it.
Akosua Serwaa claimed she was Lumba’s only surviving wife because their customary marriage was converted into a civil marriage in Germany.
Beautiful argument… but emotionally correct is NOT legally correct.
For a foreign marriage like one from Germany, Ghana’s law requires two things:
1️⃣ The documents must be certified AND authenticated by German authorities and the Ghana Embassy.
2️⃣ An expert from Germany must confirm whether the marriage actually followed their legal process.
Guess what? NONE of this was done.
Under Ghanaian law, if you can’t prove a foreign marriage properly, we treat it like it never existed.
So the only valid marriage between Akosua Serwaa and Lumba was the customary one.
And customary marriage allows a man to marry more than one woman.
So once the court confirmed that Lumba also married Odo Broni under customary law…
The truth became clear: Lumba had TWO wives. Both valid. Both customary.
The judge didn’t make a mistake. She followed the evidence — or the lack of it.
Court decisions aren’t about emotions. They’re about PROOF.
So now I want to hear from YOU…
Who caused this outcome — the law, the court, or the lawyers?
