The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has created over 1million jobs within the space of 15 months, Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah says.
He disclosed the jobs were created in both the public and private sectors of the economy.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the success of his government would be measured by the number of jobs he has created.
Data from the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has revealed less than 10percent of the graduates are able to find jobs after completion.
Already, Business Development Minister, Ibrahim Awal has said over 20,000 jobs were created in 2017 through his Ministry.
But the Labour Relations Minister has said from January last year to March 2018, a total of 1,096,404 jobs were created.
At the launch of the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO) in Kumasi Tuesday, Mr Baffour Awuah credited the key government interventions in the economy for the achievement.
“What happened in the informal sector is not even accounted for,” the Minister said.
But the government’s commitment to job creation will not end with NABCO, president Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians.
“[Job creation] will be accelerated through the implementation of our flagship programmes of One district, one factory; One village, one dam and the programme for Planting for Food and Jobs. We are also creating an enabling economic environment for the private sector to thrive,” he said.
Graduates recruited under NABCO will be entitled to a monthly salary of GHc700.
