Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng has retracted his comment that has sparked calls for his dismissal.
The diplomat in a statement Wednesday said his comments were “unfortunate” and undiplomatic.
“I have realised that my statement is unfortunate and at variance with the letter and spirit of the Ghanaian Constitution and the dignified office of High Commissioner that I occupy,” he said.
Mr Ayisi-Boateng came under fire after he said he will prioritize the interest of supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over others.
The Minority in Parliament had asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to dismiss the diplomat, describing his comment as divisive.
But Mr Ayisi-Boateng has retracted his comment.
